What You Need To Know About Renting A Backhoe

For the medium to large construction or land development company, renting a backhoe may be a weekly exercise, but we find the smaller operators need more help. That is why Backhoe Central exists, to to make sure that anytime you need to rent a backhoe that you have everything you need all in one place. Before you even get started comparing prices and equipment, we recommend that you:

Calculate the job size - Figure out the general job size. In some cases this can be difficult, but you will need to narrow down how large the footprint of the site is, how much dirt will need to be displaced, etc. Only then can a backhoe rental professional provide an accurate assessment of what your needs are. Be sure to also include digging depth and/or maximum height necessary to remove or place dirt on the job site.

Plan Accordingly - We know that a construction site can be a symphony of equipment coming in and out and it is not always possible to perfectly coordinate when your backhoe rental should be delivered. Proper timing can easily mean the difference of hundreds of dollars however, so the more flexible the your backhoe rental dealer is on their deliveries, the more you can save. Last but not least, make sure that you are aware of all job site hazards. Digging with heavy machinery can often lead to property and pipe damage, so check all local regulations according. We recommend starting here where the PHMSA keeps up to date and local information.

Rental FAQ

How much does a backhoe rental cost?

Daily rates start at $225 per day for smaller units and up to $450 per day for larger backhoe rentals with over 100 horsepower. Monthly rates jump to the range of $1,600 to $3,000. Please bear in mind that backhoe rental prices are affected by your distance to the facility (or center of metro area) and equipment availability.

Do I have to pay for delivery?

Yes, the delivery charges are separate from the rental charges (& state & local taxes). Delivery fees are clearly laid out in the rfq, and depending on location (& fluctuating gas prices) and the size of the machine, delivery on a backhoe rental will cost between $75 and $350 each way.

What if I want to cut my rental period short?

In some cases you may be able to get a refund on the pro-rated length of time that you rented the backhoe. However, the original cost of your backhoe rental may have been based on a longer period of time. So, for example if you paid a monthly rate but returned the backhoe just two weeks in, then you will only receive the difference between a monthly rental and two weeks rental. This is typically a very small amount since the discounts for longer rentals are so steep. If you return after just one or two days however, you will be able to receive a large portion back.

Are there any rent to own programs?

Yes, in certain parts of the country Backhoe Central can find you backhoe rent to own programs. These can be ideal for the company that does not have the liquidity for the upfront cost of machine purchases.
